The NHS Community Pharmacy Hypertension Case Finding Service is a valuable program offered by community pharmacies. It’s main objective is to identify individuals who may have high blood pressure (hypertension) and provide them with appropriate support and guidance.
If you are over the age of 40 and have not had your blood pressure taken in the past 5 years, come and see us to have your blood pressure taken. The pharmacist or Registered Pharmacy Technician will carry out a blood pressure check to assess your current levels. This is a simple and painless procedure that involves wrapping an inflatable cuff around your arm and measuring the pressure in your arteries.
If your blood pressure is within the normal range, they will provide reassurance and offer advice on maintaining a healthy lifestyle to prevent hypertension in the future. If your blood pressure is elevated or indicates hypertension the pharmacist will provide further guidance and support. If it is high then they will offer you a 24-hour monitor and ask you to return the following day. If this confirms high blood pressure, you will be referred to your GP.
This is a free NHS service.
